Biography

Adam Nowek is an editor, urban researcher, and photographer based in Amsterdam.

Originally from Vancouver, Adam is the Senior Technical Editor at Expatica, the web’s primary source for information on moving abroad. He’s also a founding member and the current Managing Editor of Amsterdam-based urbanism blog The Proto City, as well as an Editorial Assistant at ReliefWeb, a UN-operated source of news and reportage on humanitarian crises. On the side, Adam is a photographer, focussing specifically on cities, their buildings, and the events that occur within them.

Adam holds a Master of Science from the University of Amsterdam, where he completed a programme in Urban Studies. His thesis research focussed on the aesthetics of high-rise residential architecture in China's Pearl River Delta and Canada's Lower Mainland. Adam also holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Science with an Extended Minor in English Literature from Simon Fraser University. His thesis examined the public role in internalising surveillance methods at Canadian airports and in the fallout of the 2011 riots in Vancouver.
